First and foremost, "Strobing" is Highlighting
A new trend has now started, which some call "anti-contouring". Strobing is highlighting, it is just a name social media dubbed a commonly used makeup technique. Highlighting is always a wonderful thing to implement into a makeup look, but of course, it can be taken too far.
Highlighting should simply enhance the high planes of the face in a gentle, glowing manner. As we can see, there are some examples that show improper use of this technique. Glowing skin is much different from gooey and metallic skin. There can be many reasons why highlighting is improperly executed, mainly due to products and/or application.
Here are some of my current go-to highlighters:
The secret to perfect highlighting is skin prep
Skin prep is essential in every application of cosmetics no matter what. But, since highlighting is focusing on skin, its extra important in this case. Everyone does have different skin and issues that come with it, so having a proper skincare regimen in place will improve the look of your makeup. The one thing I focus on with a glowing look is moisturizing the skin. You cannot have a proper look with dehydrated skin! When going for a glowy look, it should look like your skin is dewy perfection, but not slimy. The rule of thumb is always going to be moderation. Use your best judgment when applying.
I have to say this is much better than contouring, but it is still over done by many. When you do your makeup, just make sure you still look like your beautiful self! Leave any questions and comments in the box below!
